The Council of Veterinary Surgeons of Zimbabwe has the statutory mandate to regulate the veterinary profession and improve veterinary services in Zimbabwe.
Through the regulation of veterinary education, registration, professional conduct and standards of practice, the Council seeks to ensure that Zimbabwe is served by a competent, ethical and accountable veterinary workforce.
Recognising the interconnectedness of human, animal and plant health, and the relationship between animal welfare, human wellbeing and the environment, the Council’s approach to its regulatory mandate is guided by the principles of One Health and One Welfare.
Through effective, forward-looking regulation of the veterinary profession, the Council seeks to ensure that veterinary services contribute to:




In carrying out its mandate, the Council supports and complements Zimbabwe’s national development priorities, including the Agriculture and Food Systems Transformation Strategy (AFSTS II) and Vision 2030.
